Welcome home, Caltech!

As the quiet of summer gives way to the familiar energy of a new academic year, we're thrilled to see the campus become vibrant again. The arrival of new and returning students, faculty, and staff brings a renewed sense of purpose to the campus, and the Caltech Library is excited to be your partner on this next phase of your journey.

While many of you were away, our team was hard at work preparing for your return. The summer months weren't just about rest; they were a time of preparation and fostering connections. We enjoyed bringing our community together for Outdoor Movie Nights at the Sherman Fairchild Library amphitheater, with nostalgic screenings of WALL-E and The Matrix under the stars.

We also hosted a series of workshops covering topics from Database Search Strategies and Zotero to Finding U.S. Maps Online and Introduction to ArcGIS Online and, once again, we provided a dedicated, distraction-free environment for the Dissertation Writers' Bootcamp. We are committed to support your learning and growth, even during the summer break.

Now, as you begin the fall semester, we want to help you with this new chapter of your academic experience. We have a fantastic lineup of upcoming workshops in October. You can explore new skills with Introduction to CAD: Basic Modeling (October 3), or dive into advanced computing with The Unix Shell (October 14–15) and our Programming with Python series (starting October 20). You can find the full schedule and register on the Caltech Library LibCal page.

Our mission is to be more than just a place for books. As our "Welcome to the Caltech Library" video highlights, we are a wide-ranging network of resources spread across six campus locations, from the main Sherman Fairchild Library to the Tech Hub in Caltech Hall. Whether you need free access to our 3D printing lab, want to borrow a laptop, or need an expert to help with citation management and copyright, our librarians are here to help. You can explore our extensive collections and get materials from other institutions using our DocuServe service.

Ultimately, the library is your space—a hub for quiet reflection, collaborative work, and intellectual discovery. We invite you to find your favorite spot, use our resources to their fullest, and simply stop by to say hello.

We wish you a successful and rewarding academic year. Welcome home.
