Barnes and Noble Self Printing Service (commercial bookseller - online)

• Please note that B&N requires PDF/A compliant files for printing.  There are both commercial and free validation tools available, including Adobe Acrobat DC (see access.caltech for free download eligibility), veraPDF (open-source), Windows' Accessibility Checker, etc.

Thesis on Demand (commercial binding service - online)

• https://www.thesisondemand.com/ - based in North Manchester, Indiana.
• Customize the look of your bound thesis by choosing from among the options they offer.  This includes color choice for buckram cloth and type of cover (both buckram cloth and leather), spine and front cover printing, pockets, etc.
• You will need to send them a PDF copy of your thesis,  and they will mail you the bound copy.
• They have a quick calculator to help you check the cost depending on your choices. Prices will of course vary - for example, a buckram-bound thesis with only spine lettering, 10 color pages and 240 black and white pages, and no pockets, cost ~$62 plus shipping and tax in December 2023.

We recommend acid-free paper with a high linen content for long-term preservation of your paper copy. This is available at various office-supply stores.

Library:

• The Library provides printing services to students with theses.
• Each student receives a $25/quarter printing allotment. Per page printing is $.10/ page for BW, and $.$20 per page for color. Note that you cannot change the paper in the printers, however, and the paper is not the archival quality we recommend for theses.
