Web of Science @ Caltech: Citations

A brief guide to getting started with Web of Science for members of the Caltech community.

Citation Exporting to Zotero

If you are interested in using Zotero to manage your citations for your Annotated Bibliography and Research Proposal, visit our Citation Management LibGuide.

Directions specifically for exporting from Web of Science to Zotero:

  1. After performing your search in Web of Science, in the results lists, use the checkboxes to select individual references.
  2. At the top of the results list, select the "Export..." button.
  3. When the pull down menu appears, select the "Plain text file" option.
  4. A "savedrecs.txt" file should download. Note: Filename may vary if you have more than one already saved to your computer
  5. Go to the Zotero program on your computer and select  "File" then "Import..."
  6. In the window that appears, select the option "A file (BibTeX, RIS, Zotero RDF, etc.)", then select the "Next" button.
  7. Browse to your "savedrecs.txt" file.
  8. In the next window that appears, choose desired options or keep the defaults and select "Next" button.
  9. Once imported, you will see under My Library a folder called "savedrecs." From this point, you can move or copy the folder or the individual articles to your desired folders.

And feel free to contact your librarian with any questions!
