Campus Life Exhibits: The Big T on the Mountain

The Big T on the Mountain

In December 1915, Throop students hiked to a small crest below Mount Wilson and carved a big T large enough to be easily visible from Pasadena. The tradition of maintaining the T’s dimensions continued with Caltech’s students, who even honored it by naming the school’s yearbook The Big T. With time, the tradition was abandoned, and the T’s outline slowly faded. A production of the Caltech Archives and Special collections.
