The Linde Institute

About the Linde Institute at Caltech:

The Ronald and Maxine Linde Institute of Economic and Management Sciences at Caltech was created to promote and coordinate research and teaching in managerial economics at Caltech. The goal is to teach the principles behind business and managerial behavior, organization and institutions, and to promote research in the areas with the most potential of original breakthroughs, leveraging Caltech’s expertise as well as its comparative advantage to carry out interdisciplinary research.

Student Business & Finance Clubs

Quantitative Finance Club
A student run research group working in collaboration with the Caltech HSS department on topics in applied finance. While primarily based at Caltech, the Quantitative Finance Club welcomes collaborators from other institutes and we presently have members from other universities such as the University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, and USC. The Quantitative Finance Club's primary aim is to provide students with an interest in quantitative trading strategies the computational facilities and data to do meaningful research.
The Student Investment Fund
The Student Investment Fund (SIF) is an organization at the California Institute of Technology responsible for manging and investing about $575,000 of Caltech's endowment. We welcome all students, faculty, and staff who have an interest in investing and financial markets, regardless of knowledge or experience.
Entrepreneurship @ Caltech
The Caltech Entrepreneurship Club aims to provide aspiring Caltech entrepreneurs with the knowledge and connections to help launch the companies of the future. Our myriad of events include hosting business plan competitions, entrepreneurship bootcamps, field trips to Silicon Valley and San Diego, the Entrepreneurship Seminar Series which brings successful entrepreneurs to campus, and the Startup Workshop Series which provides detailed information on legal matters and other logistics.

Quantitative Trading Competitions and Contests

The CQA Investment Challenge
The Chicago Quantitative Alliance is a professional investment organization comprised of leading quantitative investment practitioners. The CQA Investment Challenge is an equity portfolio management competition that offers students the opportunity to learn and apply stock selection and portfolio management skills. The competition exposes students to simulated real life hedge fund techniques. The contest focuses on both return and risk in evaluating the competitor’s skill and success. University of Chicago Midwest Trading Competition
The University of Chicago and the UChicago Careers in Business: Financial Markets program hosted the inaugural Midwest Trading Competition. The focus of this event was algorithmic trading, with cases covering pairs trading, market making, and mathematical market modeling.
