Objectives
The objectives of the Sherman M. Fairchild Library of Engineering and Applied Science
are:
 | to consolidate the resources of six Engineering Departmental Libraries in order to
exploit new technological advances in information delivery; |
 | to maintain the responsive service to Engineering faculty, students and staff
traditionally provided by the former E&AS and ChE Departmental Libraries, and |
 | to provide an aesthetically pleasing and inviting environment conducive to productive
study and research in Engineering and Applied Science. |
The new library will provide technical staff and budget not available under the
previous departmental system for implementing improvements in user access to computerized
information in Engineering and Applied Science. Patterned after the model of the previous
Engineering Departmental Libraries, the staff will include specialist librarians, each
with expertise focused on a subset of the diverse fields pursued by the Division.
