For more protection, you may register your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office.
bulletU.S. Copyright Office

For those students who elect to register the copyright of their work with the U.S. Copyright Office, there is an arrangement with University Microfilms. The author should submit an additional $45.00 payment (certified check or US Postal Money Order made payable to B&H) and the copyright agreement form to University Microfilms. The payment covers the copyright registration fee and two positive microfilm copies. Copyright agreement forms are available at the Office of Graduate Studies. The completed application must be accompanied by a letter of approval from the student's major professor and must be approved by the Dean of the Graduate Studies.

Note: the Caltech Graduate School does not require registration of copyright for ETDs.
